The Phillies are the favorites to win the Fall Classic this season and the main reason is their staff, which may be the best one ever. BetUS favors the Phillies to win the World Series.
The Phillies (+200) staff is simply stacked with Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Roy Oswalt and all have gotten off to solid starts. They are currently in first place in the NL East and their offense has been decent and may be better once Chase Utley comes back from knee issues. Even at +200 the Phillies have good betting value.
The Red Sox have the second lowest odds at +450? After a terrible start Boston has started winning even though they are still in last place in the tough AL East. On top of that their offense only ranks 20th in the Majors in runs scored and 23rd in team ERA. Off-season pickup Carl Crawford was thought to be the final piece of the puzzle, but after almost 25 games he is hitting around .150.
The Yankees (+500) are in first place in the AL East and while their offense has been solid they only have the league’s 16th ranked team ERA. A-Rod and Robinson Cano are off to hot starts, but the pitching, especially their 3-5 starters, is the big issue in the Bronx.
Even without Cliff Lee the Rangers (+800) have not skipped a beat and they are in first place in the AL West. The pitching has been decent, but their offense has been awesome ranking 2nd in the Majors in runs scored and this without the injured MVP Josh Hamilton in the lineup. Off-season pickup Adrian Beltre has played great and ranks in the top 5 in HR and RBI.
The Rockies and Giants are both at +1000 and while the Giants won it all this season the Rockies are on fire early in the season and they lead the NL West by 4.5 games. Troy Tulowitzki is swinging a hot bat at the beginning of the season and their offense ranks 6th in the Majors in runs scored. The Giants’ pitching has been decent, but their offense is struggling to score runs.
